Do hellhounds only hunt other creatures?

So they hunt lost souls. Is this only applicable to humans though? So essentially, have they been known to hunt animals or are there any tales where they have also tracked down mythological creatures? It may be a rhetorical question but some clarification would be great....

some actually believe that hellhounds do go after what ever they have to. For example if they are commanded to go after a demon they would its what they are trained to do. But probably they go after human souls more than anything else
