Snowball Effect
Mar 25 2011, 4:41 AM EDT
lots of legends can take something which may be a legitimate creature or claim and after enough retelling it snowballs into this big outlandish rumor. The human fascination with vampirism has taken many shapes, but there are many similar features. Shape-shifting, unnatural flight, feeding on blood/flesh, pseudo-human appearance or behaviour. Many of these legends can be taken from definitive sources but are built up like the Black Donald story from Irish folklore. Many are formed to defer persons from deviant behaviours (like homosexuality, pre-marital sex, and drug use). They became less believable and have since been replaced by friday the 13th, and film monsters. Truth is, we should all be more afraid of the monsterous capcity man has for his fellow men as opposed to creatures of legend.
