Face
Nov 16 2010, 9:24 AM EST
In the book I am reading, it says that anyone who sees the ankou's face doesn't live to tell the tale. I then went and looked up facts about this creature, only to find that there are several variances on the origins about ankou, but in every picture I've seen a face. How much does this book (it's a dream book, called The Nightmare Encyclopedia) deviate from accepted lore?

I've heard a tale where St Peter robbed Ankou of its sight. And it is also a prominent practice to hide your own face when Ankou comes. The death by glance was probably scrapped from those two things, or may have been confused with other death omen creatures. The only other source I found stating 'death by face' was a roleplay thing, and thus unreliable. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
