Misconceptions and well done.

Wow, I have never seen such blatant plajorism of wikipedia, but i digress, well done for that. Anyway, In Pratchetts version which is quite reliable, he outlines the common misconception tht death doesn't usually carry a scythe per say, but a sword with a blue edge, capable of cutting through anything. I think Deathy actually states at one point that he couldn't imagione carrying a cumbersome scythe around all the time. 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

He still has a scythe, but he carries the sword around for kings. Do you find this valuable?

The grim reaper is not real. I don't see why you are acting like he exists, because the wiki should state how the mythical creatures are described in the myths in which they appear, with no further speculation. At least say what you are talking about when you say something, as opposed to just pretending like you're Death's best friend. Do you find this valuable?

The Grim Reaper is a figure from the Scythian culture. He carries a scythe because that was one of the unique weapons/tools of the Scythians. He is also not a he, he is a she, or originally so. Based on the crone/death figure prevalent in many ancient pagan cultures. Throughout time, as with many cultures, the Grim Reaper has been manipulated by other cultures, but the scythe is still present.
The scythe was, and is still, used to gather, or reap, the harvest. If we attribute the Grim Reaper's other name: Death, it is simple to draw the conclusion that he uses a scythe to reap his crop, ie. souls.
Don't jump onto band wagons or believe whomever you think paints a cooler picture. Wikipedia is often wrong, but often correct. If you really want to know something, search for yourself. I highly doubt Pratchett was around when stories and conceptions of the Grim Reaper were in it's hey day, so how can you view it as reliable? I have just illustrated the Grim Reaper's origin, is it the same as Pratchett's? What does Pratchett say is the origin? Which culture? Which time period?
Incidentally, the Scythian culture is also well known for being one of the most just and accepting of cultures, as well as smoking much pot.
