Indeed, many cultures around the world, have their own tales of man turning into a beast. However, they are not all about wolves. The word 'Werewolf' is i think a Saxon term, the word 'were' means 'man'. In Asia, there are tales of men turning into Tigers, in other cultures, into bears. I believe that these stories revolve around early man's fear of the next, best hunter. In Europe it was the Wolf, though in truth, all that nonsense about silver bullets killing 'man beasts' is rubbish, nowhere does anyone say that, the only source i can find of such a notion, was a Romany Gypsy saying something about silver, no other tales state that the creatures are weak against it. Indeed, they died just as easy as a normal wolf. Many of the tales of the Werewolf, in Medieval Europe, arose around the fear of cannibalism as well. Even today, people fear and shun the idea that man would turn upon their kith and kin to devour them, and many people who were isolated from civilisation, during times of famine, war, plagues etc. would devour the flesh of man, this would create terror, and they would say that it was a Werewolf, either to try and distance themselves from the fact they were men and women eating each other, or to try and use the beast as allegory for what man is willing to do to each other when there are no other paths to tread. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. kinda there is sub species of lycanthropes their are diffrent classes of them as well werewolves hunt solitary or in a pack a solitary is probaly a lone young alpha male or female packs are lead by an alpha male and female 2nd in commend are their first born cub when lycans mate if in human form (only alpha lycans can change) if in human form when they mate the cub will be born human if in werewolf form they will give birth to a wee lycan cub that will stay a lycan a alpha will start to turn at 16. 0  out of 1 found this valuable.
