quite interesting...and i wonder, did mermaids originate from water nymphs??? 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The relation between mermaids and water nymphs/sprites is an issue for debate.

Where as water sprites would be typically considered more magical, breathing underwater by magic, the merfolk sometimes appear in stories with magic of their own. Though they are shown to have gills (magic helping them move about on land) so there definitely are links to these roots. Do you find this valuable?
