I may be getting my scots and my Irish mixed up here, but I'm pretty sure it was Banshee's whose wail was concidered a sign of death.
Sirens were the beautiful women who led men to their deaths by intrancing them with their lovely singing. 5  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

You are, of course, correct. That second paragraph does describe a Scottish banshee and not a siren. Do you find this valuable?
