Origins (from the griffinmaster)
Mar 19 2010, 10:29 AM EDT
Well, for anyone who was wondering, as this page does not tell, griffins first where part of Indian Folklore, and where said to bring down horses with their talons. Also, hippogryphs, whomevers idea, would not work because of that simple fact. Horses where the prey of griffins, so a hippogryph would not have been born because the griffin would have eaten the horse before it mated with it. Just so you know. 11 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you? |

To further add to this - The griffin's primary task in Eastern folklore (sorry I thought they originated in the Middle East) was to punish greed. One way they did this was to protect treasure hordes that were hidden out in the desert. Someone tried to take away that treasure, and the griffins would swoop down and pick them off.Also. We know the hippogriff is absurd. That's the entire point of the creature. Not only is the idea of a griffin existing doubtful, but now the idea of the griffin existing 'and' coming to breed with its prey item the horse, is doubly as doubtful - making it a sort of mythology in mythology. Everything you have is pretty spot-on, except for the fact that a hippogriff is an entirely separate creature from a Griffin. As a matter of fact, they are mortal enemies.

:) I'll say! Hm... who'd win? A lion or horse? -_- Okay, I think that's pretty logical.
