Difference between Skinwalker and Shapeshifter

Skinwalker implies that they wear different skins, skins of things they killed, taken over, etc.
Shapeshifter implies that it can physically change shapes, not needing to do anything to be able to change into that certain animal.

I'm afraid shapeshifter is a far broader term. Skinwalkers are usually said capable of shapeshifting as well as taking over the skin of another. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

skin walker is where dobble ganger effect comes from, they can kill the person then "take there skin" i.e. look like them they then do as they please, 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

the skinwalker is a shape shifter but unlike a shape shifter who cannot take the form of another person a skinwalker can take the form of another human who they have killed by slipping into thier skin to say. thus the term the skinwalker. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

sorry ppl but i'm navajo so i know alittle more. true skinwalker can kill ppl but they don't take their skins and use em. they only use animal skins. this practice was once a form of communication but later turned to an evil way. to become a skinwalker the person has to kill a close family memeber. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
