The show Supernatural had an excellent episode on the Vanir Gods. I was wondering if they really did make sacrifices for the Gods so that it would come back every year and fertilize their crops?

Thanks, this site was helpful.

That's going more into rituals than mythology. I myself have read no books specifically on the rituals of the North.

However I remember hearing about an ancient practice that sounds similar to what you are suggesting. Corn harvesters saved their last bundle of corn and make a corn-doll (Kind of like an idol then), which would capture the harvest spirit and contain it till next year's harvest. This is either the result of an older practice used by Vanir worshipers or a practice that mirrors it. Should it exist, that means. So I guess it just gives more likelihood that a Vanir like thing existed.

The supernatural episode you are writing about, simply took parts of norse mythology and *spiced it up*, much of the information was wrong and misleading. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
