Sorry buddy, but you have been influenced incorrectly ESPECIALLY if you got this info from Twilight. It may be a good book but it's fictional. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

"Twilight is fiction. Vampires may exist, but Stephenie Meyer twisted the normal traits to fit her story; They live in Forks because its the rainiest place in the world, otherwise, Edward never would have met Bella. Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and the upcoming books (Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun) are fiction!

Listen here mate. Just because he quoted from a book doesn't make him any less of a person.

Alright . .There have been centuries of legends and lore of multiple versions of the vampire race. Third: Just because this lady writes a romance novel around the vampire race does not make them "friendly". No they cant have animal blood, for the same reason you can't get a blood transfustion with cow blood...Its not compatable. They need sustenance for the blood they do not have in their bodies. It isnt known why they can not be in sunlight . In some legends yes they are beautiful, because of what they need . But really it no one knows anything about vampires other than they need blood and possibly plasma, and they may be real. Or they could be completly FAKE. Reguardless this woman has made legions of 13-16 year old girls into thining that they are Vampire experts, if they ever really looked the race up they would probably be appaled, unless these girls actually like vampires , well in that case they wouldnt be posting that nonsense youve put up. In all reality , the book is fiction the race is fiction, all of this isnt real. Stop obsessing over these things and go do somthing yourself. Her idea wasnt even original... Do you know how many Mortal meets Vampire books are out there? Hundreds! And the all have the main vamp is a good guy that goes agienst his race, meets the average girl who hates blood and eventully is turned and lives happly evr after...Blah Blah Blah

I take it you don't really like the book?

Though you pose some very valid arguments.

Its not that i dont like it, Shes talented I will give her that. Buuut its all the same. Theres always the evil do'er and coole collected good/ possibly bad guy. Ive only read the first one and gave up. Ive been trying to write my own books. I have a lot of short story things and i can already see the same pattern in my writing also....Im just really frustrated with reality :/

Confused in what sense?

it takes a LOT of effort to write something completely original. I doubt its even possible anymore. You need to come up with a minor twist that makes the whole story different.

I have the same troubles but I still try my best to write, if not for the readers for my own pleasure.

ive read twilight... its not right to believe in one persons view; learn different tales about vampires and base your opinion on multiple views... otherwise they might come and get you. Do you find this valuable?

I agree. Originality is dead, and if people disagree and say that it isn't than I'll give them that it exists slim to nil. Like Ravenite said, most authors have the same ideas, then just add a little twist and some people believe that this is originality and I guess it is in the sense that the made up the twist (though in some cases even that isn't true) but unfortunately nowadays you need to come up with something so off the wall stupid; and even then you run the chance of somebody already having it. I write as well, and it is hard as hell to keep things at least semi-original but all writers do it in a vain attempt to be published and loved by all :-). Just kidding, it would be nice to be published but then you run the risk of some movie producer ruining your novel. Anyway, just one persons opinion. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Make that two. I agree with you.

I've tried to be 100% original. I am lucky if I can make the deaths or the romance scenes a LITTLE original but beyond that I am treading on Writer thin ice. I think from all the ideas that I had, only one came close to beating the odds, though even still, like you said AVMidian - chances are somebody's already got it.

The thing is if we attempted to write for the sake of originality ONLY, then writing would come to a grinding halt. I would rather write for the sake of my own pleasure and see where that takes me. Then once its finished THEN I can consider its value towards printing and publishing.

That's exactly it. If we wrote for originality's sake, like you said, writing would lose all enjoyment that comes from the writing and we would lose the drive to continue writing it.

Bada-bingo. Give the lady a prize, lol.

Joking aside though I have seen people write for the sole sake of bleeding money out of the writing industry. Not the best way to go about it. The content in my opinion is then very lacklustered and weak.

Precisely, a lot of the writing being put out into the world, you can tell, is just for the money. It's sad really. And thanks for the prize! lol Do you find this valuable?

to be honest. I am very selective of what I read nowadays. one can usually tell that the book in their hands was a half-hearted one from the first few pages. I like more the classic ones: Lord Of the Flies; All Quiet On The Western Front and any Terry Pratchett book. Do you find this valuable?

All good novels. I like classic literature as well, even the ones that most people despise. Like Shakespeare or Marlowe. Do you find this valuable?

Great pieces of work by Shakespeare! Marlowe wrote the screenplay Doctor Faustus, about a German doctor who sells his soul to Lucifer in exchange for more knowledge. Do you find this valuable?
