A lot of historians claim that he did. It may be an exaggeration, though under the circumstances - with the way he treated law breakers and enemies - would you be surprised that something like that was created? Do you find this valuable?

I wouldn't be surprised if that occurred. He might even have encouraged the rumors if they started when he was alive (I'm not sure when they started). Would you want to fight a vampire if you could fight a mortal king? Do you find this valuable?

Valid point. People feared him enough that it took a long while before any action was done. Do you find this valuable?

Vlad's my bloodybunny...and mad as a hatter. He's my all time favorite dictator with a heart of gold for his people..so long as they're doing EXACTLY what he wants.

As for him drinking blood. Of course he did. Haven't you ever heard of Czernina? Of course that's what the Polish call Duck Blood Soup, but it'd be just as easy to make with Human Blood & the Romanians would call it whatever they call thier Blood Soup.

I mean while we're at it, it's not inconcievable that Vlad in a paticularily mad fit used human Ofal to make Romanian Caltabosi, like Drob or Sangerete (A Type Blood Sausage) Or used Jumari to make Person flavored Lebervurst, Toba or Piftie. I've heard people taste like pork. Or even Ciorba de Burta (Tripe Soup-shudders don't get me started on how much I loathe Tripe anything. The soup smells great- we call it Menudo, but HOLY HANNAH it's like trying to eat a rubber band! I just won't do it!!!) carnati - home made sausages

They say Wine is the preferred drink, and it has a tradition of over two millennia in Romania, and if it's the same sort as the Ancient Greeks & Romans used to drink then it was a very thick mixture that needed to be thined out with water or juice so it wasn't so syrupy. So he could have mixed blood into that as well, it is after all made up of water.

I t makes me wonder if the old Romanian saying, "Mâncat bine, băut bine, dimineaţa sculat mort." (Ate well, drank well, in the morning woke up dead.) Was coined because it was said Vlad would have elaborate dinners & then kill the guests.
Love, grace & peace, Kitsunegari

Actually, he did. Its a recorded fact that he drank the blood of his victims as they were impaled upon stakes. He would dine among them and drink their blood with his meal. One of the things about Vlad is that he was into more psychological fear that just brute force. He put the fear into people by his radical behavior. i.e. impaling his enemies on stakes through their ass until the body worked its way down the stake. A very brutal and SLOW death, but it made a statement, fuck with me and you will regret it. As ruler, during his time he is the most beloved ruler they ever had. There was no crime during his reign, he was also a mastermind when it came to strategy in war.
