Näcken gives fiddle skills too!
There is a legend from a place called Härjedalen in Sweden, that Näcken (Swedish name) can give fiddle players the gift of being the best fiddle player there ever was - though Näcken is malicious and there's a catch. A man once asked for this and gladly strolled home with his newly gained skill and prepared for the festival that was taking place the very same night. He played and played, and people laughed and were happily dancing all night long. But the fiddle man couldn't stop playing, and as long as his magic melodies played the people could not stop dancing no matter how tired or hungry they were. The people literally danced until they feet bled and eventually they did die - and the fiddle man too. It's a very bloody and horrible tale - it really creeped me out as a kid! Legend says that one of the songs the fiddle man was given Näcken, is today the "national anthem" of Härjedalen.

this is for all the poptropica lovers now the new island twisted thicket showed a picture of the nokken.I did some reasearch and found out just how dangerous it is. so when you play the game be sure to be careful this site says that the nokken can transform into a man, tree stump,a boat anda a gorgeous horse but do not be fooled. Its real appearence is horrible. So when you delve into the darkness of the endless wood ......beware.

********
Well this is actually four separate stories. Not one entity. Näcken, Bäckahästen and two others.
And you need to carry cold iron in your pocket, or for the horse, throw it between the horse and the river to break it's connection to the land.

Näcken
In swedish he is called Näcken, and there is a myth that if you are a fiddler and go to a a stream three thursdays in a row, on the third thursday Näcken will appear, and he can teach you to play beautiful music in exchange for three blood drops that he takes from your hand. They play music all night, and the morning after the fiddler is fully learned. But sometimes Näcken enchants the fiddler, so that he will play music nonstop, that no one can stop dancing to, until someone cuts the strings on his violin.

kelpie
a kelpie is WAY different! they are 'A ghastly water spirit that assumes the form of a grayish black horse, the kelpie drowns then devours anyone who attempts to ride it. It is often spotted wandering along the shores or rivers or lakes, appearing to be a lost pony. It can be identified by it's constantly dripping mane and by it's skin, which is like a seal's but cold to the touch. the kelpie can be heard wailing before a storm and can cause water to rise high enough to flood. if you manage to bridle a kelpie, it can be forced to do your bidding, but woe betide you to should slip it's harness' <- thats from the spiderwicks field guide
