  • Mythical Creatures for novel suggestions! :) For my school research project I’m going to be writing a novel filled with mythological creatures. I’m wondering what mythical creatures that are almighty and powerful bad guys that might represent Sun, Wind, Earth and Fear. Any answers would be of valuable assistance. Thank you!
(Also I don't need to stick to those particular topics - in fact I'm thinking of changing one to Death)
Any suggestions for mythical creatures would be wonderful! Thank you! :)

  • Charybdis Wasn't this creature indirectly mentioned in the Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan? In the second book when they go to that place to rescue grover. Or it might have been directly mentioned...
Anyhow, in the book it is said that people who are not aware of the mythical creatures or something, refers to it as the Burmuda Triangle. It's got to do with the weird disappearance of ships and planes and such in the midst of three rocky islands. Percy Jackson goes to the sea of monsters to rescue his friend, and also ends up saving or retrieving the legendary golden fleece.

It is a very good series and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Greek mythology. :)

  • okay, i couldn't edit the page, so I've put it in this thread ... In an English county called Kent is a small town called Faversham, mostly surrounded by woodlands and fields. In the late 70's, a man had exotic cats shipped in during the night to have as pets, illegal of course, but he who has the money shall buy his own deed. He had four cats all together: a lion, a tiger, a leopard and a panther. He had them from a young age so they learnt to live together. Eventually a dairy farmer caught wind of these cats and thought he could make some money. So he slaughtered one of his own cows and told the local authorities that a man with monsterous cats were the culprits. After hearing of this, the cat man set his cats free, as he loved them too much to let the police take them away and have them Destroyed. Ironically, as they were set free it became a hunt. All cats were reported dead, accept for one. The panther. The panther was never found. Through the years, cows and sheep have been found slaughtered, even into the mid 80's. The authroities and experts all decided it is plausible for the panther to be doing this, but its reign of terror does not match the time length of its life expectancy. In the 90's, it continued, smaller cats and even dogs were found mutilated, then eventually there were reports from dogwalkers that they saw an extremily large cat in the woods or sprinting across fields. When investigation took place they found footprints, but the were more than twice the size of a regular fully sized panther. And even to this day sightings are reported. It is very hard to find info on this creature, I only know myself as I am from the town of Faversham ... And I too, have seen it.

  • Half right In Greek mythology, Charybdis was a sea monster, once a beautiful naiad and the daughter of Poseidon and Gaia. She takes form as a huge bladder of a creature whose face was all mouth and whose arms and legs were flippers and who swallows huge amounts of water three times a day before belching them back out again, creating whirlpools. In some variations of the tale, Charybdis is just a large whirlpool rather than a sea monster. Charybdis was very loyal to her father in his endless feud with Zeus; it was she who rode the hungry tides after Poseidon had stirred up a storm, and led them onto the beaches, gobbling up whole villages, submerging fields, drowning forests, claiming them for the sea. She won so much land for her father's kingdom that Zeus became enraged and changed her into a monster. The myth has Charybdis lying on one side of a blue, narrow channel of water. On the other side of the strait was Scylla, another sea-monster. The two sides of the strait are within an arrow's range of each other, so close that sailors attempting to avoid Charybdis will pass too close to Scylla and vice versa. The phrase "between Scylla and Charybdis" has come to mean being in a state where one is between two dangers and moving away from one will cause you to come closer to the other.
