What?
I've been kinda confused for a while. How is the cockatrice related to the basilisk if the basilisk is a reptilian creature and the cockartice is an avion?

Basilisk and Phoenix
I don't think a phoenix/phoenix tears would be able to help with venom. It could probably close a bite wound, but not neutralize/purify poison. If you had a unicorn or other creature of purity then that would work, but healing does not remove poison. I don't know if phoenix tears would help with petrification or not, but I kind of doubt it. The whole insta-kill thing... Sorry, phoenixes can't help you there.

cockatrice
The part that states "Other myths say that the basilisk is a giant, ugly rooster that hatched from a chicken's egg being incubated by a frog or toad." actually describes another being called a Cockatrice.

Cockatrice
I thought that cockatrices' BREATH was posionous, not their venom or eyes... But I guess everything you find about them is going to be slightly different, seeing as they ARE mythical...
... Or are they???

Harry potter and dragon rider
i have read both books that are metioned above and both are fantasic. i would reccomend them to anyone who likes fantasy novels and mithical creatures. i think basalisks are very interesting creactures and i espeically like the scene it 'Dragon Rider' with the basalisk because it is very exciting and makes the basalisk seem more scary that it hp. although i still think jkr makes the basaliSk scary. I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be to your benefit
to open a book not in the children's fantasy section and look in something more like the mythology section of your local library if you can manage to find it.

a basilisk
im many other books, basilisks are said to be only killed by a weasel (sometimes leading to the death of the weasel). seeing there reflection does nothing.
