A Wraith is similar to the grim reaper but they have a different connotation.

The simple explanation of a wraith is this: a ghost or ghostlike image of someone. (one seen shortly before or after their death.)

Originally, the word "Wraith" is a Scottish word for "ghost", "apparition", or spirit". It usually is a used to refer to a rather unpleasant and/or grotesque version of a human ghost.
The Wraith is often associated with an undead sorcerer or sorceress that failed to become healthy at their deathbed through certain unnatural methods (i.e: Methods that do not follow the established laws of nature, most often trying to break and evade many of these laws through darker and more sinister ways). After the sorcerer or sorceress epically failed to become healthy and alive again with their spells,potions, and/or magics, they die and come back to "life" but as a wraith. Perhaps it would be better to say that they don't "come back" to life, rather, their bodies die and an impression of the soul is left behind, a sort of ghost if you will.
They are seen in dark purple robes that are kind of ripped and carry large scythes. Wraiths can be very dangerous even if they were good sorcerers and sorceresses. Once they are brought back to life by their messed up potions and magics, they become corrupted and evil. If a Wraith is powerful enough, they can possess humans. Wraiths will make their home anywhere that's dark and sinister. Rarely a wraith will make their home in a dark basement but if one found its way into your basement, call a priest, bishop, or saint or go down their with a Bible with a lot friends. Once you're down there, gather in a circle and shout, "Dark interloper, leave this holy house! God has found you! Leave or feel the wrath of Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost! Their light will repel you, acolyte of evil!" Then cross yourself and you and your friends will be protected and the Wraith will be defeated. You should also take a wooden cross down there too.

Wraith is actually a Scottish word for "ghost", and there is already a ghost article, so im moving this to the twisting void beyond (AKA uncategorized)

Black Dogs

Black Dogs are a whole class of monstrous, canine apparitions prevalent in European folklore, showing up frequently in English and Scottish lore. These mythical creatures are also often known as Hellhounds, and are described as being huge dogs, roughly the size of a calf (though there have been sightings which have placed them as large as horses); covered in thick, shaggy black hair and with glowing red eyes.

Despite their name, these creatures are not necessarily black, as there have been reports of them being white, spotted, yellow and even brown. Sometimes, though very rarely, there are reports of Cerberean Black Dogs – meaning they have two or three heads. The Hellhound’s canine teeth are often described as being longer than average, and, to many people, seem to be grinning at some hidden knowledge, rather like a canine Cheshire Cat. Black Dogs may be benevolent; they may be malicious; or they may be neither.

These apparitions appear at places that serve as transition archetypes – places such as lonely county rounds, ancient highways, bridges, crossroads, and shallowed entrances. Hellhounds are said to guard treasure or sacred places. More often than not, if you leave a Black Dog alone, it will not bother you but if you attempt to harm one, the consequences are dire. Black Dogs can inflict frightful wounds that may prove fatal. Indeed, in much folklore that describes these creatures, to see one is portent of death, though there have been purported instances of Black Dogs guiding lost travelers to safety.

Black Dogs are also associated with fire – specifically, the flames surrounding the hound and the presence of scorched earth and/or claw marks burned into wood or metal left in the beast’s wake.

Black Dog Description:

Coat is blacker than black, this doesn't gleam in the moonlight like a coat of a living dog. It's properly black. Sometimes white, spotted, yellow or brown.

Eyes glowing of sauce; others tell of terrible, empty black gaps. Though mostly they are blood-red gaps.

Claws spring precariously from huge paws that make no sound as the monster lopes along in the night which is good. The paws also leave no prints, even in the softest soil. It's so spooky.

Its teeth are hideously long and sharp and foul saliva reeking of sulfur may drool from the beast's jaws if on heat.

Its strength and agility is probably the best that I know of.

Adjule

The Adjule, also known as Kelb-el-khela, is a cryptid canine, often seen in the North African region, especially the areas in and around the Sahara Desert. Reported primarily by the nomadic Tuaregs, and Théodore Monod in 1928, the adjule is said to be a phantom which takes the form of a dog or wolf. Variant names to it creature are kelb el khela ("bush dog") for the male and tarhsît for the female. However, despite still firm belief in its existence through modern urban myths, this cryptid has since been debunked and its sightings attributed to wild canines mistaken for the adjule, such as the African Wild Dog which is now extinct in certain areas of the Sahara. There is one unconfirmed canid-like animal sighting from the coastal area of Mauritania in 1992. Hunters living in the coastal areas of the Western Sahara, to the north of Mauritania, described an animal resembling the wild dog, which hunted in packs. However, this was not confirmed for Lycaon pictus species (IUCN/CSG, 1997). It at lest 2.5 feet and weighs from 30-40 lds. It has very thick skin.

Abbagoochie

The Abbagoochie is about three feet long and ovly get to 35 pounds as an adult. It is all teeth and muscle. It can consume anything and is highly intelligent. Readers of the Webster Echo learned in February 2001 that officials of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) had recently introduced thirteen baby Abbagoochies from Costa Rica into their state in order to keep down the population of overpopulated predators such as coyotes and rattlesnakes.

The Abbagoochies were described by the newspaper as being a fierce, carnivorous species. Costa Ricans referred to them as "dry-land piranhas." But according to the Webster Echo, the WVDNR's plan had soon gone horribly awry. The Abbagoochies had grown up and were now eating everything in sight, including "rabbits, coons, squirrels, dogs, cats, deer and even bear." Cows and horses had also been attacked. To make matters worse, the Abbagoochies, which had been imported to control the growth of overpopulated species, were themselves multiplying out of control.

Soon after the Webster Echo article appeared, sightings of the Abbagoochies began occuring throughout the region. Farmers reportedly began carrying shotguns in order to protect their livestock. Concerned parents walked their kids to the schoolbus to make sure they were safe. And one man reported that he had accidentally run over an Abbagoochie by mistake.

The original Abbagoochie book was written by my father, Jim Wilson, and published in 2007. Within weeks after this book was released, he was summoned to a mandatory private meeting in May 2008 with State and Federal Officials, which resulted in his sworn secrecy...........but why????

On Thanksgiving Day of 2008, my father went through a critical life event which enabled him to finally get honest about what he really knew about the Abbagoochies. Dating back to March 15, 2002 and every day since then, he has lived with an unpalatable truth. He kept it to himself and tried everything to forget what he knew, but he couldn't.

On this Thanksgiving Day, he broke down and shared this truth with me, in spite of the declaration of secrecy he was forced to sign in that May 2008 meeting with officials. With the information he provided me with about one year ago,we began to further investigate this truth. What was discovered promises to be one of the most amazing tales ever told...

This looming "panic state" in West Virginia is the result of my father breaking his mandatory silence about what he really knows about the Abbagoochies.

In spite of the possible consequences to him personally, he chose to do this because of his concern about the rising numbers of "Missing Person" Reports from several mountainous West Virginia Counties, including his own. This information has been thoroughly investigated, validated and verified.

Abada

The Abada, otherwise known as the Nillekma or the Arase, strongly resembles the Western Unicorn, only this creature hails from the myths of the Kongo people in Central Africa. They bear on their heads two crooked horns instead of one straight horn. They are also thought to be the size of a small donkey, have a dark bay colour and have a boar's tail. Its diet only consits on plants.Similar to the unicorn, its horns are thought to act as an antidote to poisons. It is rearly seen do to its shy nature.

Beldam

The Beldam is best known from the popular filmCoraline(2009) as the "other mother" ( if you haven't seen this movie, youdefinitelyshould, it's great.) Beldam is an archaic word for a kind of witch. I must say again, witches aren't at all evil, it's just that people never trusted them. The Beldam is a spider-like creature that has button eyes and sewing needle fingers. The Beldam eats children, and will lure them into a trap. While a Beldam's main form is that of the spider-like creature seen above, It can adopt a new form todeceiveChildren into following it. A Beldam usually nests in deep forests, (unlike the one from the movie), but will stalk the edges of forests to lure prey. Usually seen in passing on roads, in or near abandoned houses in/around the woods, or on the edges of a property that children frequent. Encounters with the Beldam are becoming fewer and fewer. A Beldam has a sick compulsion to "care" for the children it captures. Said care is usually displayed as sewing buttons into the eyes of the child, paying inhuman amounts (to the point of utter creepiness) of attention to the child, playing games with the child until they drop of exhaustion, or becoming incrediblyobsessed with the child. A beldam will usually run from an adult, but if a child comes into the vicinity, then there can be trouble. Beldam are known lovers of games, and usually won't take a child within the first meeting. Instead the will usually try to tempt the child so that they leave of their own free will. A parent of a taken child can thereby try to tempt the beldam into a game to regain the lost child. Beware that the Beldam won't play fair, but will always agree to the prospect of a game.

Gargoyle

In contemporary fiction, gargoyles are typically depicted as a (generally) winged humanoid race with demonic features (generally horns, a tail, talons, and may or may not have a beak). Gargoyles can generally use their wings(if they have any) to fly or glide and are often depicted as having a rocky hide, or being capable of turning into stone in one way or another, a reference to their structural roots. If they don't have wings, (like the one in the photo to the left), they will scale the building's outer walls and either walk the streets at night or they will go inside the building. Gargoyles are known to protect buildings from evil spirits.

In some variations gargoyles are used as the evil beings that eat humans but as said before they usually are used to protect places from evil.

Its been said that gargoyles can only communicate when either the wind or the rain passes between their mouths. Stangely enough its also been known that gargoyles have the strange ability of water manipulation.

Mammon

The demonic lord of hunger, Mammon is an ancient, 3,000 year old demon. Mammon controls large amounts of Gobbler demons and other hunger related demons as part of his kingdom. He is an ancient and evil force that hasplaguedhumanity for a very long time. He exudes a hunger that will drive people to consume anything; like eating french fries in a fryer, drinking draino, etc. Mammon is a very dangerous adversary that is incredibly dangerous and should never be approached.

Kumo Demon

The Kumo is a medium sized demon native to Japan. These demons are extremely dangerous as they are near silent, poisonous, andversatilehunters. The main diet of a Kumo is meat. Anything from a sparrow to a cow. They have been know to attack and consume unwary human prey. The habitat of a kumo is usually a heavily forested area. Miles of forest provide plenty of prey and nestingopportunities. Kumo will spin a net like web to rest in. They are none territorial THIS MEANS THAT THEY WILL WANDER!

Heres a set of instuctions for surviving a Kumo encounter:

The Kumo is a spider-demon found in Asia and especially Japan. These instructions cover the basics of what to do in a Kumo encounter, be it controlling one or getting away from one alive.

TO SURVIVE A KUMO ENCOUNTER:

1: Do NOT try to escape. A Kumo is about the size of a large dog and will easily run you down.

2: Lower yourself to its level. I know this sounds insane, but a Kumo will generally regard anything taller than it as a threat and pounce. Squat down so you appear to be only slightly taller than it.

3: Hum softly and tunelessly-- make sure to keep one steady note and pitch. The Kumo detects vibrations with the hairs on its legs and thus zones in on its prey. Humming both calms the creature and confuses its homing abilities.

4: As you do so, shuffle backwards slightly using your feet. Do not stop humming and try not to make your motion obvious.

5: Once you are out of pounce range (about 25 feet away), stand up slowly and back away from the Kumo, still humming and making eye contact.

6: Once it is out of sight, feel free to turn around and walk. But DO NOT run. Even if it can't see you, it will still feel the vibrations of your running feet through the ground. And remember-- NOTHING incites a predator to attack like running prey.

COMMANDING A KUMO

1: Slowly approach the Kumo holding at your side an offering of food. The Kumo prefers bird meat.

2: Throw the offering to the ground about five feet in front of the creature and wait while it eats. It's a good idea to activate a warding spell at this point to keep you safe.

3: What you do at this point will direct the Kumo's behavior if it is satisfied with your gift. If it isn't satisfied, see "To Survive a Kumo Encounter" above.

TO TELL A KUMO TO ATTACK:

1: Make a series of metronome-like clicking sounds while making eye contact with the target you want to be attacked. Do NOT make eye contact with the Kumo while doing this unless you wish to be attacked yourself.

TO CALL OFF A KUMO ATTACK:

1: Hum at a high pitch while drumming rapidly on the ground with your foot. The Kumo should drop its attack and come to you, unless it is at this point in a feeding frenzy.

TO CALL A KUMO TO YOU:

1: Hum at a low pitch while drumming on the ground with your foot at a steady pace. Back up while you do so. The Kumo should follow you.

TO BANISH A KUMO:

1: While looking at the ground, let out a slow hiss and back away from the Kumo. It should back away as well. Once it is about 30 feet from you, stop backing up but still walk in place until it has backed out of sight. Wait for a few minutes, and the Kumo should be gone from the area.

NOTE: A Kumo cannot be expected to obey your directions immediately after one feeding. It may take multiple feedings, different types or amounts of food, etc. Just give the creature time to adjust to you. Kumos are actually quite intelligent and can be trained as protectors if you spend enough time working with them. Still, remember that these are primarily demonic beasts and not to be trifled with.

Grim

The Grim is a dangerous creature very similar to the “Dementors” Of Harry Potter (2010). The Grim is a specter that wanders area’s of desolation and Incredibly dark energy. I have personally survived several Grim attacks. The Grim attacks by first latching on to someone, and then draining them of their soul energy (life force). This leaves a person feeling incredibly drained and tired. A person who has been attacked and survived will usually be petrified, and be very scared, lifeless and sad. They may or may not recover fully from this. Recovery depends on how much energy was taken. If you encounter a Grim, you should: A. Run as fast as you can, and B. use this simple spell of protection:
Lumen defendit me, non contingere potest tenebras me, ego sum defendatur, autemesto absentis!
The spell is in Latin. Once this is said, imagine the purest white light kindling in your core and then radiating outward until you are surrounded by a white fire from which no darkness can touch you. Lastly, run like your life depends on it, because it does. A Grim will kill you. Only very well trained Goetic Practitioners and Shadowhunters can fight these things and win. Goodluck.

The Venihi

Ibong Adarna

Ibong Adarna, or the Adarna bird is a legendary bird of the Philippines. It is believed to have a very long fancy tail, with numerous shiny metallic colors. It knows a total of seven songs that are believed to lull anyone to sleep as well as cure any type of afflictions; it changes its feathers into more colorful hues and shades after each song. After the last song, it excretes waste, then finally, sleeps with its eyes wide open. Its dung (poop) can turn any living organism into stone.

Though her song was believed to be so dangerous, any one can still nullify the curse-effect of her song , if and only if, that person wounded his palm and at the same time squeeze a calamansi/ kalamansi (a citrus fruit from the Philippines looks like a lime but just small). And by staying awake, anyone has now the chance to catch her and ask for her curing abilities of any kind of sickness..

This has been my first dream of a Hell Hound. I never heard of a Hell hound since I was 8 or 9. I didn't think much of it until now. Last night I was going down these steps, red blocks everywhere, nothing but an outside hall way. When I had reached the bottom everything, even my eyesight became red. A Hell Hound kept biting me on the shoulder and my neck. I had blocked myself with my arm but the Hell Hound had gone through it!! His eyes were red and he was pink skinned. I do not know what this dream means, but I would really like to know. It is just killing me and I cannot wait to see me sister for some answers.

Loveland Frog

The Loveland Frog (or Loveland Lizard) has been seen since 1955 in Ohio, Loveland. Onlookers described it as a four-foot tall humanoid with a frog-like face and skin. It walked on its hind legs before diving into rivers to avoid observation. The Shawnee Indians (who previously inhabited the Loveland area), claim to have encountered a similar creature during hunting trips. They call it the 'Shawnahooc' or 'demon of the river'. What could it be?

The Nymphs are essentially physical incarnations of the forces of nature such as water or wind. They are a mysterious race, believed to have been created to preserve what is called "The Great Balance" As a result, they are spirits of neither good nor evil and will aid the side that is necessary to preserve or realign the afore mentioned balance.

Nymph legend says that they were created by an entity believed to be the source of all things natural to which they refer to as Shialakzoran, which literally means “Nymph mother” in ancient Esirian. This may also refer to Aurosozahnah, High Goddess of Nature from the ancient days prior to the Mianorite invasion. Shialakzoran, though highly revered, has never been worshiped by the nymphs. It is due to the nature of their relationship resembling more of a bond between a mother and her children as opposed to a goddess and her followers. As such, nymphs consider themselves all part of one big family. They refer to each other as cousin, if speaking to a nymph of another element, but will refer to nymphs of the same elemental alignment as sister.

All nymphs are female, however due to their longevity it is not necessary that they procreate. Which prevents their population from growing out of control or dwindling. Nymphs can born from nature itself, one day appearing from a minor gust of wind or newly budded tree in spring. They may also be born through mating with other sufficient races (depending on the race, mortal or immortal). Depending on the nymph, in the case of a female offspring, it will be born a nymph. This method of nymph creation is usually very rare, due to their nature of separating themselves from mortal society.

Nymphs exist in an unusual state of limbo between life and death. In a general sense nymphs are immortal, however some nymphs can be killed or made mortal through rare circumstances, secrets that nymphs guard dearly.

Air Nymphs

Air nymphs refer to nymphs that are attuned to the air element. They spend most of their time in the skies, and may affect the weather through their manipulation of air currents. They are widely known for their beautiful singing voices, which rival mermaids and sirens. Air nymphs are probably the most populous nymph and can be found almost anywhere, from the smallest of breezes brushing through the leaves, to the fiercest of storms raging above. Despite their population they are one of the most elusive and most refuse to interact with humans and other mortal races. It is said that an air nymph never stays in one place for too long, and do not usually make emotional attachments. Contrary to popular belief, air nymphs cannot be captured in jars, enchanted or not, however they can be trapped in containers made of celesite.

Most air nymphs are born from the first breath a mortal baby breathes. They are truly immortal, however they can succumb to sickness if the air becomes polluted. This can lead to strange weather occurrences, or stagnant air. Air nymphs can be further divided into two different classes, the most common being the wind nymphs, the least common being the storm nymphs. Despite being “sisters” they are fairly different from one another.

Wind Nymphs are most recognized for their long white flowing hair, which waves in the wind as they dance and fly. Those who have been graced with a wind nymph's presence will recall how they never remain in a tangible state. Their long hair covers their breasts and from the waist down they are nothing but shifting winds. They are translucent, being able to partially see through them, and their eyes are shades of gray.

Wind nymphs are the most passive as well as the most common of all nymphs. They strictly refrain from contact with mortals, especially humans, and stick to their roles as observers or guardians. They are kind and compassionate beings, known for being very understanding, to those who gain their audience. They are also known for their beautiful singing voices, and their dancing capability. There have been cases where a wind nymph appeared before someone gifted with a beautiful singing voice, singing along with the person. They are free spirited and will literally go wherever the wind blows them, riding on the currents of air.

Wind nymphs have control over any sort of wind, some even having the ability to control gale winds. They may conjure a gentle breeze to rock a baby in a cradle to sleep, or dance along sails of ships sending them into endless circles. It is said that the wind nymphs know all that occurs in the world presently.

Storm Nymphs are quite contrasting from their wind nymph sisters. Their hair is curly however it is still long and has a general flow to it. In most cases their hair is dark grey or even black signifying their seniority. Their skin complexion is gray, a noticeable difference to the wind nymph's pale skin. They stay intangible like their wind nymph sisters; however it is of great offence to walk through a storm nymph. While tangible they have bronze shoulder pads with jagged spikes, indicating lighting. Their hair also covers their chest but they are also wearing dark material over their chests behind the hair. They wear a purple translucent skirt that shimmer yellow depending on the angle of the light.

Storm nymphs are not quite as passive as their wind nymph sisters however; they similarly do not enter into conflicts not concerning themselves. They primarily travel with storm clouds, and may even conjure up storm clouds on their own. It is very easy to offend a storm nymph, if one happens to pass through a storm nymph, be prepared to dodge lightning. They may also be offended if they overhear one speaking poorly about nymphs in general or if they simply don’t like said person. Storm nymphs usually live over the ocean where storm clouds usually form, spinning from one cloud to the next.

Storm nymphs have the power to conjure up storm clouds, or change normal clouds into storm clouds. They can turn a clear blue sky into a dark one filled with the rumbling of thunder. They are also capable of creating sandstorms, hurricanes, and tornadoes, which is why most people tend not to like storm nymphs. Storm nymphs are also capable of calling forth lightning, especially unusual coloured bolts of lighting, such as green or purple.

Earth Nymphs

Earth nymphs are nymphs attuned to the earth and all things within, ie minerals, and gems. They are immediately recognized by their brown skin, and they have the darkest skin tone of all of the nymphs, which is quite unusual since they live underground. Their hair is usually black or brown, depending on the nymph she may keep it long or short not wanting it to get in the way. Their eyes are vivid, blues, reds, greens, and yellows. Earth nymphs wear a variety of clothing. The traditional earth nymph wears armour made from diamond, sapphire or other strong metals and gems. Earth nymphs who have chosen to live in society wear clothing of fabric as the other people do in the chosen society.

Ever since the birth of the first kingdoms of Elenlond, earth nymphs have served not only as protectors of the balance, but protectors of ancient treasures as well. They have the ability to become stone, giving them the appearance of statues that may stay dormant for eons until awakened by an intruder. These guardians are referred to as Statuettes. However one must gain the favour of an earth nymph in order to obtain one. They are fiercely loyal, and will fight viciously for all they love. They marry into dwarven or gnomish families quite often, and live with their husbands, raising their children together as a family. Female offspring of dwarf/gnome and earth nymphs are always earth nymphs. Earth nymphs get along with dwarves quite well, they say the greatest weapons were drawn from the earth by an earth nymph and forged by a dwarf. In very rare cases, earth nymphs will marry a human. This is highly unlikely however, because earth nymphs prefer to live under the ground.

Earth nymphs have control over earth, rocks and minerals. They may shape it into any form they desire, as well as move it in a sort of limited telekinesis. They can shift the earth, causing it to tremor slightly, or quake violently. They can “slip” in, out and around stone as if it were water. Earth nymphs may also turn their bodies into an almost impenetrable stone. While in that state they are at their most vulnerable. An earth nymph is usually immortal however it is said that a sewing needle made from a mixture of gold and meteorite fragments punctured into their skin will make them completely mortal.

Mountain Nymphs

Mountain nymphs are essentially the same as earth nymphs except they live solely on mountains. These nymphs however prefer to live in isolation instead of infusing themselves into society. These nymphs are noticeably taller than all their nymph cousins and they do not wear regular clothing as integrated earth nymphs do. Mountain nymphs though living in seclusion will help travellers who have gotten lost or need aid. However they produce a nymph mist similar to wood nymphs that cause the traveller to merely think that it was all a dream.

Water Nymphs

Water nymphs are attuned to water in its various forms though ice nymphs are restricted to water in its solid. While ocean and river nymphs are restricted to water in its liquid and gaseous form. Water nymphs spend most of the time within the water and are known for their rivalry with mermaids. Most nymphs dislike their watery sisters because of their flirtatious behaviour and their habit of seducing males who happen to cross their path. They can easily be found lying on the banks of rivers or on rocky outcrops in the sea enjoying the sun or simply combing their hair. They are notorious peepers and if one happens to hear giggling while bathing in a river waterfall or beach, in most cases it’s a water nymph. Water nymphs are said to be the most beautiful of all nymphs and are excellent seers. Many water and ice nymphs can see the future from pools of water.

Ocean and River Nymphs (The common water nymph)

They are generally the same; however one always lives in the ocean and one in the river. An ocean nymph for reasons unexplained are not capable of entering rivers and will simply stand on it as if it were solid ground which is vice versa for river nymphs. Their skin is slightly blue though they may lose this colour if they spend long periods of time out of water, making them appear almost human. Their hair comes in a variety of blues and usually has some sort of sea plant in it. Their clothing is comprised of seaweed and shells in most cases and they have the habit of wearing sunken treasure or coral as jewellery. Their eyes are almost enchanting causing those who gaze into them to be attracted to them, and are usually blue-green.

There have been many cases where a water nymph and a male (in most cases a fisherman or sailor) will fall in love. Though water nymphs are quite fickle in relationships there have been cases where they become betrothed to whom they will love for the rest of their lives. Water nymphs are passionate lovers and it is possible for a water nymph to literally die of a broken heart. Water nymphs that die become sea foam and exist simply as water. They may be born as the female child of a water nymph and another immortal or from women who die by or in the water.

Similar to their cousins they too may turn into an elemental variation of themselves though only in a liquid state. Unlike air nymphs however, they may be trapped in bottles or jars. They also have the capability to purify water to make it adequate for life as well as drinking. The purest springs are almost always tended to by a water nymph. The rivalry between water nymphs and mermaids is actually quite fierce and has erupted into battles in times past. In many cases the seas far from land are the most dangerous as that is where they are most likely to do battle.

Ice Nymphs

They are water nymphs who were created far north. They are quite different from their warmer sisters. They live usually in wastelands of ice or in frozen pools of water. They too are also very beautiful though they use it more in a manner to punish mortals. Their skin is a much paler blue and their hair is dark blue usually sprinkled with snow. Their eyes are a piercingly bright ice blue. Ice nymphs wear dresses of blue with fur and trims though they may also wear jagged armour of ice which won’t melt even in direct heat of the sun. They use their beauty to lure shallow men into their territory in which they freeze them to death as punishment. Unlike their sisters they are not as flirtatious and are unsurprisingly cold to others. They are rather isolated from their cousins and keep themselves separate from mortals and most other creatures. They control ice similarly to how earth nymphs control earth, and they may also “slip” through ice in a similar manner.

Unlike many of the other nymphs, there are queen ice nymphs who are recognized for their power or wisdom. Queens usually assemble groups of ice nymphs together for their entourage. Ice nymphs are not as populous as other nymphs and may be born through the rare union of a man and an ice nymph though it is more common that one will just happen to find an ice nymph born and on her own, especially after a blizzard. A fiery salamander’s saliva is capable of making an ice nymph mortal, and therefore vulnerable.

Wood Nymphs

Wood nymphs are attuned to all plant life. They are seen as the most spiritual of the nymphs. Wood nymphs are almost always in all forests and in some reside in castle gardens. They are fairly common however they too are also elusive though they perhaps interact with humans and elves the most. They are widely known for their celebrations as well as their blessings of plant productivity. They are great tricksters of the forest and are fierce protectors of it as well willing to sacrifice themselves in order to protect it.

Wood nymphs usually have a slight green skin tone though are predominantly fairly tanned. Their hair is either a rich brown or a shade of green, or in some cases a mix of both. Their eyes have the enchanting ability to withhold the attention of whom she desires and come in a variety of colours usually relating to the tree that one is born from or their mother. They wear clothing fashioned from plant leaves, petals, bark and other related materials. They are said to be almost as beautiful as their water nymph cousins. They are a regal people and hold dearly onto tradition, celebrating the changes in the seasons or simply a harvest moon. They are a very cheerful people.

Plant life is very dear to them and though they are capable of manipulating it they are always wary not to use it simply as a tool. They are valiant protectors of the Great Balance and many of them become warriors in order to observe the matters within the world. Some nymphs complete a ceremony known simply as the bonding, in which a nymph bonds her very existence to a tree or in rare cases a plant. This grants the nymph immense power capable of moving entire forests or causing a plain of grass to grow unimaginably high. The risk that comes with it however is that if the tree is killed the nymph bonded to the tree will die as well.

Nymphs may be reborn by burying their body underneath the seed of a tree and in a few years a young nymph will step out of a young tree, completely unaware of her past. A nymph may also be born through the mating of a nymph and some type of forest spirit which guarantees that the female daughter is a full blooded nymph. In rare cases though not quite uncommon a nymph and a mortal, usually an elf or a human, will elope or mate which doesn’t always guarantee that the daughter born will be a nymph but the half child will have some nymph abilities. Nymph blood will forever flow through the daughters of the family and in some cases a descendant of a nymph will be born a full-blooded wood nymph.

Similar to ice nymphs, powerful wood nymphs will lay claim to an entire forest and become the queen of the entire wood or forest. The queen is usually bonded to a tree deep within the forest and it is her duty to protect everything and everyone within the forest. Wood nymphs are usually well acquainted to humans because of they often appear out of the blue to help people who have become lost in the forest. They are connected very closely to both people as well as spirits and are viewed as the true in between.

Fire Nymphs

These nymphs are the second rarest nymph and it is almost impossible for one to catch even a glimpse of one. As their name states they are nymphs that control fire and are capable of producing their own. They are very elusive and can perhaps count on their fingers the amount of times they have interacted with the human race. Their skin comes in tones of slight red or orange to a vivid yellow. Their hair is usually a fiery orange or brownish red and their eyes range from red to yellow. It’s not very concise whether the clothing they wear is simply fire or something else that gives the appearance of fire.

Not much is known about them except that they are born from a natural bolt of lightning that strikes something and catches fire and that they come in time of need.

Light Nymphs

The light nymphs are the most elusive and rare nymphs of the entire nymph race. They do not necessarily control light but may manipulate the light that is there. Their hair is a very bright yellow that could almost be called white. Their eye colours are the various colours found within the rainbow. Their skin is a pale yellow and they wear golden dresses of light. They have never spoken to anyone outside of the nymph race though they have been slightly glimpsed while in a ray of sunlight. No one really knows how they are born or how they die, though it is wide knowledge that light nymphs love to dance. They are said to be the greatest dancers, and can be sometimes glimpsed while twirling in the first rays of sunlight or in the aura of the moon’s light at night. Legend has it that they are polite, though nothing much is known about them.

Pyrausta

The Pyrausta is a hybrid between a dragon (see dragon page) and a insect.
Unlike the dragon it can't breath fire although to ward off enemys it shoots a sticky (and smelly) thread from its mouth.
It lays its eggs in trees, anything that gets to close will get wrapped in a cancune to be the new born larva's first meal.
