What are mythical creatures picture Mythical Creatures are usually literary creatures that generated popularity out of literary circulation and story-telling. They are legendary creatures that at one point believed to be real beings, while some have their origin traced from literary myths.

Mythical creatures can be divided into two groups; the first group consists of creatures that everyone agrees to have existed or still exist today and the other group is composed of creatures in which not everybody agrees as to whether they have existed or not.

While the first group is asserted only on literary works and word of mouth, its impact becomes stronger over time. The tale becomes a legend, the legend becomes a history.

The other group is considered to be consisting of a more elusive magical mythical creatures that still make people wonder if they are real or not. These creatures are more aggressively shown and described on articles, photographs, journals and movies.

Greek Mythical Creatures

Mythical creatures that came out of the pages of the book and became popular literary legends are the ancient Greece mythical creatures. Examples of these are Centaurs, Minotaur, Nymphs and Pegasus.

A more special creature called the Hydra makes Greek mythical legends more fascinating if not awe-inspiring. Literary stories enveloped with powerful and legendary creatures like these create a more enduring impression and provides constant appeal to its readers and audience.

Unicorns, dragons and other creatures like griffin are magical and mythical creatures as well. Dragons are legendary beasts that for centuries still amuse people of its uncanny ability to fight evil with its fire-breathing powers and its astonishing strength.

Legends give birth to these immortal creatures that will live on for centuries to come and more.

People became fond of Nymphs, of the legendary Pegasus, of imaginary monsters, of mythical gods and creatures because these entities provide bewilderment and it somehow imparts exuberance to an ordinary life that’s full of imagination.

Mythical Creatures in Different Countries

Each country has their own folklore made up of mythical and magical creatures, monsters and legendary heroes. Through out the years, the pages of a country’s history have long been rich with mythical characters, with fancy creatures that became more and more alive as the centuries and decades go by. Supernatural characters are always present and mythical places are visualized.

The specific existence may still leave the readers wanting to know more about these creatures. But the mere fact that Big foot, the Loch Ness Monster and the Abominable Snowman are getting world wide attention and are still being talked about is because they all share the common trait – they are elusive and mysterious.

Mythical and magical creatures would always haunt one's vivid imagination and will continue to run along the imaginary corners of the mind.

Mythical Creatures: Dragons

Dragons are mythical creatures commonly described as large and powerful fire-breathing creatures typically with magical powers and spiritual qualities.

These creatures have been a part of legendary stories and myths for thousands of years and most countries have their own version of dragon tales. Folk legends about dragons have been passed down for generations in many civilizations. As these stories were handed down through the years, the story becomes more fantastic, marvelous and more often exaggerated.

Dragons are believed to have been able to survive almost anywhere, from the ruins of the earth to the down-reaching parts of the ocean.

In legendary myths, dragons were generally described as fierce, evil and destructive. They typically guard a sacred treasure, could be a gold, a powerful stone or jewel or a maiden being locked away. Most stories include a knight to come and rescue the damsel in despair or reclaim the treasure, in order to do this; he must slay the dragon or get the dragon’s heart.

Though they are richly described on magical tales and myths, dragons are more often considered as real life creatures that have existed in the past. Like dinosaurs, dragons are much like the great reptiles that have appeared on earth even before humankind’s existence.

Mythical Creature Dragon: Archosaurs Archosaurs, a group of diapsid reptiles are often believed to be related to dragons. There is no physical evidence to support this claim but alleged sightings are being collected by cryptozoologists.


Giant lizards known as Megalania (Greek, word “great roamer”) are often described as the real-life counterpart of dragons. These lizards appears to have gone extinct around 400,000 years ago but cryptozoologists believe that these lizards are still alive today due to some accounts collected that there were sightings of this giant roamer.
