My grandfather who took the photos arrived after it had been washed up on the rocks.
What it was exactly remains a mystery... Some scientists having seen the photos believe it to have been a globster (remains of a decomposing whale) and not the living creature described by the eye-witnesses. I have lived in South Africa all my life and have been to Margate practically every year since birth but have never heard another account of Orca's being spotted from Margate's coast. Perhaps they are further out (although I also scuba-dive in the area), perhaps they prefer the cooler waters further South (off the Cape Coast), or perhaps over-fishing along the entire coast has forced them to seek food elsewhere. I have seen whales (blow whales) occasionally far out to sea from a high vantage point on the shore at specific times of the year. basil.tregenza@gmail.com

My grandfather, a kind, generous, wise and reputable man, took photographs of the Margate creature aka the Margate Monster aka Trunko.
They are copyrighted in the name of AC Jones, in my possession and also published at http://www.margatebusiness.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=64:the-legend-of-trunco&catid=1:mba-news&Itemid=2. See also http://karlshuker.blogspot.com/2010/09/behold-trunko.html You can believe it! "Trunko" existed. basil.tregenza@gmail.com

Why didn't any scientist go to investigate? And there has to be at least one picture somewhere! If i saw something like that, the first thing i'd do is reach for my camera.

The story provides no description of the creature. But judging by the picture, it's probably just a porpoise or a whale of some sort with an unusual birth defect or tumor.

Why would no pictures be taken? I mean, if it was on a beach for 10 days, wouldn't some tourist take a picture of the thing? Exactly why there are no photos eludes me, but I have to admit that I doubt this story's authenticity

But don't you think that's kinda fishy? For the carcass to be laying on the floor for over a week and no one thinking anything of it?

The scientist had a chance to exaim this thing and they turned it down! They could've at least got some DNA or something! WHo knows what thing could help us with! The fur could be given to the poor, the meat could could be given away at meat markets, and the bones could be crushed together to make a brick that could survive hurricanes or torndos!

The fact that scientists turned down the chance to examine it for over a week, that no one thought to grab a picture, makes me seriously doubt the truth of this one. Human curiosity alone would have overcome fear at some point, especially if it were dead.
