The Ancient Egyptian god Thoth ( also known as Tahuti, Tehuti, Zehuti, Techu, or Tetu) was one of the better known Egyptian gods. He played an important part in the Egyptian Pantheon, and is often shown with the head of an Ibis or Baboon. ThothHe was also the Egyptian moon deity and soon, because the moon allowed for time to be measured at night, and since the phases of the moon regulated so much of Egyptian lifestyle that he soon became known as the god of wisdom, magic, and eventually, time.Thoth was the god of writing and knowledge. Some Egyptians believed that Thoth was the deity that gave them hieroglyphs and that he was the mouthpiece for Ra. His chief shrine or temple was in the city of Khemennu, which the Greeks later renamed Hermopolis.
