Minotaur is a creature from Greek mythology that is half human and half bull. It was said to have lived at the center of a great labyrinth (an elaborate maze) built for King Minos. In Greek mythology the minotaur was eventually killed by Theseus.
"Minotaur" is Greek for "Bull of Minos". Firstly, King Minos built the maze below his palace. Secondly, the Minotaur came into existence when King Minos asked Poseidon for a bull for sacrifice. When the bull came out of the sea, Minos took it and thanked Poseidon a lot. But when Minos broke a vow that he'd made previously, the god made Minos's wife fall in love with the bull. She had an affair with it and out came the Minotaur. Minos was terrified and locked the beast away in the maze. Every nine years he would sacrifice children to the monster to keep it at bay.

I don't know why people find it so hard to believe that something like a Minotaur could actually exist. I'm not saying some lady had sex with an actual bull, but there is a physical site that we can physically go to, where is 'supposedly' the site of King Minos's trap for the Minotaur. It's not like someone would go through all the trouble to build a labrynth, just so they could tell a fictional story about it. It's not like we could really prove that this thing existed however, because it's a labrynth, and unless someone was willing to search the entire thing without getting lost, and hopefully find some bones or something, there is no other physical evidence, other than a story that has been around through mellenia, and the remanents of the labrynth.

Recently i discovered that the story about the minotaur was derived from an actual existing underground maze. Well technically an underground palace but scholars say that this was probably where the story came from.
The Minoan Palaces known to date in Crete are those of Knossos

lenapup77 said that the minotaur was not for king minos. if it wasn't then why would minotaur be greek for 'bull of Minos'? It was king Minos's bull which was fed king Aegeus's people (7 men and 7 women to be exact)
