Medusa - Interesting Theory
I was reading an article about some elongated skulls that were discovered in a temple in my home country back in 1903. At first, my attention was focused on the article, but as I read some key words it got me thinking about Medusa and a POSSIBLE connection.
Most legends are based upon supposed eye-witness accounts and hearsay, is it not? Also most legends are translated into modern language from ancient text. Now what if there was a misinterpration along the lines?
The reason I say this is because of the article I read. Here is one quote that got me thinking:
"In this skull, the upper part, the cranium, was long and narrow - its maximum breath being less than 75 percent of the maximum length. This together with other elongated features, gave the skull a serpent-like appearance."
Upon reading this, I started to ask, what if it wasn't a head FULL of snakes, but a head LIKE a snake. If the skull would have given this impression it could easily have lead to a misconception.
The second quote that I read made me think it more: "Forgione's team of researchers even concluded that the shape of the skulls made it impossible for this person to walk - the only possible movement was a forced, probably very painful, slither."
Could it possibly be that there is an ACTUAL explanation to Medusa? i would like to keep looking into this more and maybe see if the story can in fact hold up.
