Keythong (Alce)This is a featured page

The Keythong or Alce is a male griffin. Wingless; unlike their female counterpart, the Alce is a mythical quadruped with the foreparts of an eagle and the rear, tail and hindquarters of a lion. Its eagle-like head had pointed, upstanding ears like those of an ass and sometimes long straight horns as well. Feathers grew upon its head, neck and chest and the rest of the Keythong's body was covered in leonine fur. In place of wings the Keythong would have large golden hornlike spikes protruding from its back. As well as, golden spikes in other various areas.

I didn't know griffins were females. Why wouldn't they have the same name, but be identified male or female by their wings? Why give them seperate names?
