FetchThis is a featured page

The Fetch is a living ghost, the wraith-like image of a person who will die soon, or a small flame. It may be seen by relations or close friends-or by the person themselves. In the dark of night it appears only as a small flame (known as a fetch light) and may be confused with other phantom lights. In Irish tradition the fetch light only fortells death if it appears at night. If a fetch is seen in the morning, it predicts a long life.

Thank you--very helpful. I have to teach a high-school kid how to fight as a fetch tomorrow morning--should be fun!

In the book "The Shadowing; Hunted" by Adam Slater (who has a degree in folklore), the Fetch is described as a tall, thin, skinless being with unblinking eyes. Once it has seen a human's face, it can then change it's appearance to imitated that person. It feeds primarily off the eyes of it's victims and can only be weakened by forcing it to look upon it's reflection while in it's true form. Like all undead/netherworld creatures, it must be invited into buildings, such as houses, if it is to enter.

I though a Fetch was a creature created a Fairy when a human gets lost in the Fairy Relm. The Fairy who created the Fetch sends the creature (usually made of clay or dirt) to the human world to live in the real human's place until they return to Earth.
