A demon of Death? Based on what? There is no folklore to support that!
Croatoan is a name of an island near the colony. When the colony began to horribly fail, the settlers left and went to live with the native americans, who knew how to live off the land. When the trade ships returned, they found that the island had become populated with a bunch of native american/anglo saxon mixed children. This is historical fact. No ifs, ands or buts. Sorry

I agree with you anon about the demon angle. Never heard mention of it before.
However things were far from certain in the Croatoan case. When they came back they only later theorised that the current inhabitants could be of mixed origin. However, even if they had been on the island when they thought of this, there would have been no way to test it back then. Thus not a fact.
And this is why the Croatoan case is quoted in books dealing in strange disappearances.
