i heard they just went on thinking they were human but they would always seem different to others and would never make friends, and that they didnt live long . only around thirty years olds or so. just long enough to start a family with a human.

If you are familiar with any world of darkness changeling (the lost) lore, then you would know the replacement to be called a fetch. The changelings in the world of darkness are actually people who escape from the faries (known as the fay) and come back into the mortal world as a changed person.

The only story I have found on the modern star trek changling or shapeshifter is the skinwalker. Out of Native American folklore, the skinwalker is a person with the ability to change into anything(mostly animals) they wanted. I have recently heard there is a canadian native tribe that are shapeshifters. I have not been able to confirm this though.
