A bogie is a fae creature used to explain many everyday grievances of mankind. It causes minor mischief but generally does not pose a danger or a threat. It is part of a collection of 'bugbear' type spirits, which also include bogles and boggarts. Thought to have been descended from the idea of bog spirits.
They prefer to live in gloomy places, areas old and forgotten or among the clutter of accumulated, but seldom used, items. This makes an attic, a hollow tree, garages, junk shops and even a cupboard acceptable retreats. The bogie will lurk in these hideaways to avoid being seen.
Despite it being rarely seen, a bogie can be heard moving around, as it is said to be a clumsy creature and incapable of complete stealth. Other than this they will make themselves know with the tricks they play. These are only minor variants of the pranks afflicted by the boggart, such as removing bedsheets or simply creating uneasiness in the human by spying on them.
Bogey-Men in particular harrow children in the night, usually only the naughty ones. Their true form is said to be vague and amorphous, which accounts for the wide variety of descriptions attributed to them by youngsters. Needless to say, the mention of 'The Bogey-Man' to children is a popular method to make kids behave.
