Basilisks

Basilisks are said to be creatures of evil. Almost every time a basilisk is described, there is that little detail that they can kill a person with one glance and can turn a person to stone when their eyes meet through a ghost or a reflective surface.

Basilisks have many different forms, depending on the myth. Some myths say basilisks are giant snakes that have venom stored in their teeth and if one of its teeth just scratch your skin, you will die unless you have a Phoenix or a store of Phoenix tears near by. Other myths say the basilisk is a giant, ugly rooster that hatched from a chicken's egg being incubated by a frog or toad. The rooster basilisk usually is described as having dead parasites falling off its feathers. The rooster myth says that if the basilisk sees its reflection it will explode and the resulting dust is lethal if inhaled.

The basilisk will die if it hears the crowing of a rooster.

Some fantasy books include a bit of information on basilisks including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling and Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke.

How I learnt about Basilisk was like above it said above Dragon Rider which I must say was a fantasic book, once I learnt about them I really wanted to find out more so I have looked on websites and read about them in books and found out this: Although they can kill a human being in a second it takes longer for them to kill other amazing being eg: dragons, sea serpents ect. Another way to kill a Basilisk is to hold a mirror up so it can see its own eye because that is one of the ways it can kill you it is not immune to its own eye sight so as soon as it sees its own eye it will turn to dust. So if you're going to go Basilisk hunting don't forget to take a mirror. One last thing, I am lead to believe that they normally live in caves and in dark places where they can sleep. That is all i have to say.

in Greek mythology the basilisk is a monster that does not turn things to stone but spits poison and they are afraid of weasels plus wherever they walk plants die so if your going basilisk hunting then look for a trail of dead or smoking plants
