from what I can gather on other site the Abbagoochie is urban legend. one site said that, and I quote: "that it will, when cornered, spin around rapidly, like a Tasmanian devil, and consume itself and poof it was like it was never there" i paraphrased a bit but all the stupid stuff that was in that quote was not added by me the web page really said that.

So, apparently they are growing rapidly and out of control, right? There are missing persons, there are top secret meetings of government officials (and your dad :S ) who were sworn to secrecy because there is an increase in missing persons? That does not sound right. If there was a KNOWN reason that people were disappearing and dying, wouldn't the government tell us?
This page sounds more like a conspiracy theory more than an objective analysis of what the creature is etc. I mean, YOU SPENT 5 PARAGRAPHS BUILDING SUSPENSE!! I agree with the first poster, this sounds more like someone's fail attempt at creative writing more than a proper webpage. Go and post this bull on a conspiracy website or something. Some people actually use this website as a source and people that do this are immature.
Also, IT IS IRRELEVANT AS TO WHETHER YOU PERSONALLY THINK IT IS REAL OR NOT!!
If it has been PROVEN then it SHOULD NOT be on this website. This is a website about Mythical Creatures, not messed up conspiracy theories about creatures that have been (or have not as the case may be) proven.

It kinda looks like a Gremlin... lol, but I believe this creature's real. I think so because my brother claims he saw one, and though some people may think I'm dumb for believing, I know my brother is an honest guy in general.

I learned about this monster as a schoolchild in 1990. It is a part of WV folklore. Of course, it isn't real.

Abagoochie? I don't think anyone who has spanish as a first language would ever name anything like that. First: it doesn´t even sound spanish. Judging by the pronounciation I could say this creature is some kind of imported brand that somehow (airplane) reached Costa Rica/any part of the hispanic world. Second: it means nothing, at least for us. Maybe it means "your mom" in zulu, but that's in an entire different continent.

And about the "dry land pirahnas": In spanish, that would be "pirañas de tierra seca" or "pirañas de tierra firme", waay too bland to be screaming for help while saying it. A catchy name would be more like "monos del diablo" (devil's monkeys/monkeys of satan). Or some bad word, like "monos del coño/carajo" ("those ******* monkeys" , "those monkeys of ****"...I don't know how to translate those, but you get the idea)

And about the whole secrecy thing...why would he be forced to not tell his own family? It's not like the authorities have secret cameras and find about every single dump he takes or something like that. If I were him, I would tell them right away but make them keep it as a secret. Or not, since this whole killer monkeys thing is pretty fantastic for people to take it seriously...but that would make them look crazy.

This is written like a tease for a new fictional story. What did the father reveal? Does he mean that his father is among the missing?? Is he hunting them -- and why keep it quiet?? What are they hiding??? Oh -- the suspense of it all!! On the other hand, if this was REALLY true, then by now everyone should have heard about them becuase of the "multiplying out of control" and nothing living would be left in West Virginia except them - last I heard West Virginia is doing just fine.
