i dont kno much on griffons. i like to think about how bioloigcally mythical creatures could exist. like for example dragon fire could be a chemical reation of methane produced in the gut from digestion and posibly a spark caused by hard teeth grinding together

Cool.I also like to think about griffons in the same way.
I think they would have hard, bone upper beaks, but their lower beaks would be made up of harden cartliage,so it would be flexible. It would also be covered in small ridges so the griffon could hold and tear at its prey.
Their forefeet would have three toes and a small thumb, and pads on the bottom (like a cat).
Because their cere (nose) is on top of their beak, they might have difficulty smelling things below them. So,when they open their mouths, they could breathe in the scent so they could taste it (also like a cat).
I like your therory on dragons.

why would they need flexible lower beaks. do you know the skin of a shark well this makes them more streamlined. the same concept can be aplied with air currents there skin could be such that air resistance is minimal to save energy for a large heavy bird in flight

They might have flexible lower beaks, because,in my book, they have the power of speech.
In real life?Yeah,probably not.
Their wings are large like an eagle's,but more tapered like an albatross. This way, they could fly at faster speeds and make quicker turns.
Hmm,tho.Would they truly hate horses in real life like the legends say?

i agree about horses i mean it would be a hard food source large fast creatures they would be better of with boars. although how big are the griffins taking into account the need to fly

Hmm,I don't think size would be an issue.I mean, look at the huge commercial jets we have, and they stay aloft!
In my book, tho, their jaw comes to the top of my main character's head (about 5.4 feet tall).
They'd probably be a pest to farmers.I imagine griffons would find hunting much easier when they steal the farmer's livestock.

its true jets stay aloft but they have jet engines producing tones of thrust. pterosaur where flying dinosaurs standing approximately 6ft and that is physically about the limit for a land animal to achieve flight i done the maths. but a 6ft posibly just larger due to lightweight bones and feathers would make a grifon a formidable predator. i agree livestock would be easy prey used to land carnivores like wolves. but a diving griffon reaching speeds of 60-70mph approx would break any animals neck with ease.

I wonder if they could be domesticated...?
Probably not. They seem like they'd be extremely wild.

Funny thought,a griffon catching a frisbee.
It's frisbee would be a car tire.
What would the neighbors say when they saw you walking your griffon along the road? And would the griffon
have the sudden urge to chase cars?(-:
I'm feeling particularly random today.
I LOVE LADY GAGA!
Where'd that come from?LOL.

I can't believe I laughed out loud. :-)
Are you a fan of Lady Gaga?I hear she'll be singing on So You Think You Can Dance on July 31st.Channel 28 by the way.
Anyway, back on the subject of griffons, what do you think of hippogriffs?I personally don't think that they're the offspring of griffon's and horses.Just a different subspecies. But hmm, that breed would have had to evolved SOMEHOW.

You're right,these debates ARE fun!

Random now.Poker Face stuck in my head. That song could drive anyone insane.

i like one or two of her songs i like biffy clyro all american rejects and subways and metro station mostly at the moment. now then hippogriffs hmm couldnot really be a offspring cause different species to start with for example donkey and horse make a mule and a mule cannot reproduce they can only be made and to be honest i dont think a horse would have the hots for a griffon seing as it may be food for the griffon it is probs just an evolutionary trait griffon maybe cumbersomme on the groud so it evolved legs like a horses to move easier survival of the fittest and all. i like linking to prehistoric creatures (im at uni studying to be a paleontologist)

American Rejects,woo!
By the way, that info about Lady Gaga on So You Think You Can Dance was like,a year old.I checked, and July 31 is a Friday.Seriously, they should terminate info that old on the internet!
Paleontologist, huh?Well, seeing as you probably read my profile, you already know I want to be a detective in the Homicide and Serious Cases Unit.

Never heard of Biffy Clyro or Subways and Metro Stations. Is Biffy a country singer?Sounds like he would be.Subways kinda sounds like a Greenday style.Am I even close?

How many griffon species do you know? The ones I can think of at the top of my head are:
Cynogriffon (chamrosh)
Hippogriff
Griffon
Keythong (heraldry)
Sea griffon (tho not technically a griffon)
Snake griffon (also not technically a griffon).
There's others,but I can't remember.

Now Lovegame's in my head.Inappropriate, but addicting.
